A Look into the LYME Light

After my diagnosis, I questioned for a long time whether I should write a blog or not. I had many people curious as to what this disease entails. Because let's face it, no one talks about Lyme unless they have it or they know someone who has it. I will admit that hearing the words Lyme Disease never stirred my interest. I thought it was minute to other "bigger" diseases until...I GOT IT.

And there I was. After years of feeling awful and doctors telling me I was fine, the answer to my "I must be crazy," thoughts, were laid to rest. But first, let's go back.

My name is Megan and this blog will be about my fight against Lyme...with the help of my companion Miss Izzie, who also is in the fight with me. I currently own a Pet Services business called, Pup-cation. It has been one of the most rewarding jobs I have ever encountered. It has changed my world, my heart, my mind and, the love from our clients pets, has opened my heart so wide that I fear one day it just may explode! I started this business when I got Miss Izzie.  She's my 2 year old Golden Retriever and also my best friend. She has been the best thing to ever walk into my heart; even if I have to vacuum a thousand times a day, gotta love her!

So where was I!? Sorry, Lyme has made my brain so foggy, so bare with me. Sidenote: I may blame Lyme on a lot of my faults that really have nothing to do with the disease, but who's to question me now?! ;-).

Lets go back in time. I remember getting sick about 2 years ago. I had moved from Pittsburgh, PA to Roanoke, VA, where the summer months become a pit of hell. Everything settles in the valley, like one huge dustbowl of filth and all sorts of gross allergens hovering around. With that being said, the doctors here had convinced me that I had developed adult allergies. "Really? Does that even happen?" I was prescribed allergy meds from the medexpress nurse (my fault for putting my health into the hands of a pop-up clinic). And then **BAM!** One night, my heart started racing, and I began to sweat more than I ever have in my entire life! The doctors said I had the "flu." If this were the flu, it definitely was like no other I have ever expreriened. This "flu" then developed into bronchitus and then into full blown pnemonia. My immune system was shot!
Okay Doctors. So you're telling me that this is all because of allergies?! Come on! If I had a dollar for everytime my Doctors said, "your blood work came back normal," I'd be flying in my private jet to my private tropical island. A girl can dream.

Now, here is how I got help. I bounced from Doctor to Doctor, and with my line of work, I met so many amazing clients, who were knowledgable with the best doctors around here. Remember, I was fairly new to Roanoke when my symptoms started.  I was really lost with what to do. If my blood results were always coming back normal, I must be crazy, right?!  I work for a Chiropractor, walking her pups, and in return she gives me free services. As I reflect back, she has been a blessing in disguise. She adjusted me, recommended I go gluten-free, take a few supplements to repair my gut, and she even did blood work on me. My results were wild, and as she said, "not normal." I jumped for joy! Who does that?! Well, when you've been fighting a disease that you have no answers to, for years, hearing "something is wrong," was music to my ears.  So you best believe I took those results and marched right up to my PCP and slammed them on his desk. I had that shitty ass grin on my face, and the mentality to say, "see I told you I am sick!" And what did he do? He dismissed me. He dismissed it all! Why? Because the results were from a chiropractor. "They aren't real doctors."

I have a client, who, in my eyes, has become a great friend. I take care of her little furball, Munchkin.  He's a Cairn Terrier, with a great amount of sass, but his adorableness outshines that! We have dance offs in the culdasac. And by dance off's I mean, I take a stride to the left to block him from running back home, and then when he tries to outsmart me, I shuffle to the right to block him again. It's a game. I think he secretly likes giving me a hard time haha! Anyway, I got off subject a bit. It's the Lyme's I tell ya! So lets call this client, Ducky. After taking Munchkin for his morning outing, Ducky and I have our morning therapy sessions haha! We chat about everything, but mostly health. Because frankly, we are both a mess. One day we were having our session and she had mentioned that she sees a specialist who costs a lot, but is very thorough with her work. At that point, I didn't care how much it cost to get an answer. It was a lenghty and strenuous process until I got an appointment with Dr. Talty. A lot had happened in between then, but we'll cut it all short, because when Dr. Talty stepped into my life,  everything had changed. She was worth the wait.

So welcome! Welcome to my new life as a  "Lymie." I hope this blogs helps those become more educated with what the disease entails, but most importantly, I hope to reach those out there just getting diagnosed, or going through the same struggles. We're in this together! Woof! --that was Miss Izzie agreeing.
